It’s one of the first things you’ll see when comparing storage facilities: “Climate-Controlled Units Available.” Sounds like a must-have, right?
But do you really need it—or is it just something you’ve been told to look for?
At Store Here in Pantego, we don’t offer climate-controlled storage. So we’ve had hundreds of honest conversations with customers over the years about when it matters… and when it doesn’t.
This guide will walk you through:
Climate-controlled storage units are designed to maintain a more consistent internal temperature—usually between 55°F and 85°F—regardless of outside weather. Some may also include humidity control.
The idea is to protect items that can be damaged by extreme heat, cold, or moisture. But here’s the thing: it’s not a universal solution. Not everything needs it—and for many common storage scenarios, it’s an unnecessary expense.
There’s no doubt North Texas gets hot—especially in summer. But unless you’re storing certain sensitive items, you may not need a climate-controlled unit at all.
Bottom line: If you’re storing practical household goods or seasonal items, you can likely skip climate control—as long as you take a few extra packing steps.
Texas summers are no joke—but most damage comes not from the heat itself, but from how things are stored. Here’s how to prepare your items to handle it:
Plastic bins keep moisture out and don’t collapse in humidity. They also help block pests better than boxes.
Use pallets, plastic risers, or even milk crates to keep furniture and boxes off the floor. This improves airflow and guards against condensation.
For books, electronics, and fabrics, use bubble wrap, thermal blankets, or even shrink wrap. Add moisture absorbers like silica packets to sealed containers.
We always recommend inspecting your unit every few weeks—especially during long-term storage. Quick visual checks go a long way in catching potential issues early.

We’ve seen plenty of customers pay for climate-controlled units elsewhere, only to find out months later that their items would’ve been fine in a standard unit—especially with smart packing and a little prep.
For example, many UT Arlington students use our storage during summer or study abroad—storing dorm furniture, clothes, and mini fridges with zero issues.
Likewise, weekenders storing RV and boat gear near Lake Arlington often prioritize convenience, space, and security over climate control—and our facility offers just that.
If you’re moving to Pantego or West Arlington and trying to figure out short-term storage options, you’re not alone—we work with new residents every week during transition season.
When climate control isn’t necessary, what matters most is how well the rest of the facility protects your stuff.
At our Pantego location, we focus on the things that make the biggest difference:
And yes—we still throw in a free move-in truck for new renters.
We get it. Climate control is a smart option in some cases. But if you’re packing up a dorm room, organizing a seasonal garage clean-out, or just need a place to park your boxes during a move—chances are, a well-managed standard unit is all you need.
